Additional info/contents	Perhaps the most famous carol of all, Silent Night was first performed in St. Nicholas' Church in Oberndorf, Austria, in 1918. The words were by the priest Father Josef Mohr and the music by a local headmaster Franz Xaver Gruber. Its worldwide popularity became poignant almost one hundred years later in Ypres, Belgium during the First World War, when the song was sung by both German and British troops in the Christmas Truce of 1914: a reminder, if any were needed, of the universal language of music.
