Additional info/contents	Show off the expressive abilities that your students have learned with this lovely and captivating selection. The beguiling melody and harmonic structure is some of Faure's most familiar work, and Larry Clark has created an arrangement that's as beautiful as it is playable. All the notes here are quite playable, but there's so much expressiveness possible in this piece that more mature bands can make wonderful music playing it. This transcription of Pavane, Op. 50, attempts to authentically reproduce the piece in a setting for band, yet keep it playable by young musicians. The overall form is exact, with the exception of the development section. This was abbreviated to accommodate the grade level. Special care was given to orchestrating the piece as closely as possible to the way Fauré intended. The flute melody at the beginning is written for the whole section because of the difficulty younger students have in projecting the sound in the low register. It can be performed by a soloist, if desired, or can be performed an octave higher than written. The composer would also strongly recommend that the conductor plays a recording of the orchestral version for the students. This will give them a greater sense of the subtlety of the piece and how delicately it should be performed. There are many different ideas about the appropriate tempo for this composition. The composer has indicated a metronomic marking only as a reference - it is his opinion on interpretation. One should use his own musical judgement to decide what is best for someone's circumstances.
