Additional info/contents	Kees Vlak's *New York Overture* draws inspiration from the music of American composers such as Copland, Gershwin, and Bernstein. Motifs from their works permeate the piece like a common thread. The overture musically depicts an imaginary journey through New York City: It begins with landing at Kennedy Airport and a view of Manhattan. The tour leads through iconic locations such as *Battery Park* on the Hudson River, *Fifth Avenue* with its skyscrapers, and *St. Patrick's Cathedral*, where Gregorian chant and the ringing of bells can be heard. In *Harlem*, jazz dominates, while *Central Park* is portrayed as a tranquil oasis with a lake, concerts, and jogging trails. The journey concludes in vibrant *Broadway* with its theaters, jazz clubs, and dance halls. The overture ends with a view of the harbor and the Statue of Liberty—a farewell to the pulsating city.
