Additional info/contents ‘Canzonetta for Euphonium and Band’ was commissioned by the “U.S. Air Force Air Combat Command Heritage of America Band” in 1994. The ‘Canzonetta’ is an expressive work. The essence of the piece lies in the beauty of the melodic lines and the contrast between double and triple rhythms.
The ‘Canzonetta’ is a composition with one movement that lasts about seven minutes and consists of three different sections. The first part is slow. The second part is faster and opens with the whole band (bar 33). This is followed by longer solo passages that cover a variety of moods. (bars 52-148). A cadenza (bar 148) leads into the third section. This last part is again in slow tempo. After the band plays as a whole again, it returns to the delicate mood that opened the work and ends just as calmly as it began.
