Brief description |
This release presents Philip Myers, principal horn of the New York Philharmonic Orchestra. It Includes a superb performance of Chavez's 'Sonata for Four Horns', featuring the four principal horns of the New York Philharmonic and shows off with brilliance the versatility and range of the horn. With repertoire of great originality drawn exclusively from the 20th century, and among others works by Schuller, David Amram and Bernstein's delightful 'Elegy for Mippy 1' (written for a mongrel dog that belonged to the composer's brother Burtie!), Myers brings out the full tonal beauty of warmth that characterizes this often neglected instrument. |
