| Definition/synonyms |
A drum band is a percussion ensemble using idiophones such as xylophones, castanets, claves, etc. and membranophones such as snares. The actual domain of drum bands is the street; meanwhile, drum bands also perform in concert.
For visual reasons, many drum bands (especially in the Benelux countries) are associated with a group of majorettes. Likewise, especially in the Netherlands, one finds brass bands or fanfare orchestras to which a drum band is assigned. |
