Definition/synonyms |
The tam-tam, also known as chau gong, is a large East Asian metal gong with an indefinite pitch that is usually struck with a felt mallet. It consists of a flat plate-shaped disc, often made of bronze (with 80 percent copper and 20 percent tin), which can be up to 200 cm in diameter. The edge of the disc is bent over. The instrument hangs in a metal stand on ropes. |
