Additional info/contents
"A Requiem for Eurydice" is inspired by the Greek myth of Orpheus and Eurydice. In Greek mythology, Eurydice dies on her wedding day to the musician Orpheus, bitten by a snake. In order to reach her and save her, Orpheus, using his music and lyre, charms the creatures of nature and the realm of the dead. He finally succeeds in obtaining permission from the gods of the underworld to return to the surface with his beloved. However, they impose one condition: that the two lovers remain one behind the other, with Orpheus forbidden to turn around to look at Eurydice. Unfortunately, as they reached the exit, he turned around, breaking the oath, and Eurydice disappeared forever into the realm of the dead.
The play thus depicts the Greek myth in three parts inspired by the movements of the Requiem:
(Apart from a very brief quotation from the Dies Irae at the end of the play, it does not reproduce the liturgical sequences.)
Introit – The Under World
Kyrie – Love song
Dies Irae – The Loss
