Additional info/contents In the summer of 2018, my family and I were able to move into the new house opposite the venerable Wimmis Castle. From my desk, I now have a wonderful view of the former seat of the government governor's office. This gave me the idea of writing a suitable castle march for the Wimmis Music Society.
In the first theme, you can hear the bells of the Wimmis Reformed Church, which is right next to the castle. The bells are tuned to the notes A, G, E and D. So I hear the opening motif of the first part every hour on the hour when I'm at home ;-)
In the trio, I used the melody of the Guggisberg song. That may seem surprising. However, there is a close connection between this song and Wimmis Castle. In the 13th verse of an invitation poem by Franz Ludwig Steiger, governor of Wimmis, to mayor Frisching in Thun (Rhymes about the cheese meal at Wimmis in 1741) it says: "Now listen, now the music begins, / the village magistrate praises / wants to sing one himself. / The Vreneli from the Guggisberg / and Simes Hans Jogeli on the mountain / will resound excellently." In the last part of the march, the sounds of the bells merge with an inversion of the song.
