Additional info/contents In 1964, American pilot Jerrie Mock became the first woman to fly solo around the world, despite criticism and the predicted bad weather. She completed this journey in 29 days on board the ‘Spirit of Columbus’, a single-engine Cessna. The story inspired Marc Jeanbourquin to write this composition. The determination of the aviatrix is already evident in the first bars and reflects her mood before take-off. The following anthem represents the beginning of the flight, when everything is going well. This transitions into a calmer section, as if the pilot is letting herself be carried by the air currents above the clouds, lost in thought. An energetic passage brings her back to the cockpit, where she is confronted with bad weather. She overcomes these difficulties and appears above the clouds before a joyful finale, as if approaching the finish line. Welcome aboard a flight around the world!
