Additional info/contents	Franz Lehár's operetta "Der Göttergatte" (1904) tells the mythological story of Mercury, the messenger of the gods, who gives up his immortality for the love of Lysistrata. The overture, an independent orchestral piece with lively melodies and a dramatic build-up, has been arranged for wind orchestra by Fritz Neuböck Jr. His arrangement translates the rich sound of the original to a wind band setting, concludes with a cadenza, and is playable by medium to large ensembles. This arrangement allows wind orchestras to include a piece from the Viennese operetta tradition in their repertoire and demonstrates how historical works can be reinterpreted through arrangement.
