Additional info/contents "The Last Friend of Napoleon" is based on a true episode from Dutch history. When Napoleon was defeated in October 1813 after his unsuccessful Russian campaign, the French withdrew from the Netherlands. At the beginning of 1814, the entire country was liberated, with the exception of the city of Delfzijl, which was still held by French troops. This programmatic work is about political and military stubbornness, about pursuing dreams, and about the fact that love always goes its own way.
Dirk Brossé, who is one of the most famous contemporary composers, presents a dramatic story with this epic work. He uses the wide spectrum of the symphonic wind orchestra: he has created sophisticated episodes for the brass, a wide range for percussion and numerous beautiful melodies.
