Additional info/contents "And the rest is Austria!"
is about the fall of the Austro-Hungarian Monarchy and the subsequent formation of the First Republic of Austria.

First, the end of the First World War is described. Drum and trumpet sounds put the listener into a war situation, but the slow tempo and dissonant sounds give an idea that this is the battlefield of a lost war. Melody fragments of Joseph Haydn's Imperial Anthem remind us once again of the Habsburg period, which now ends.

Shortly afterwards, with a faster four-four time, a mood of departure spreads. The first notes of the imperial anthem are transferred to a new, cheerful melody. This part describes Karl Renner's dream of a German-Austrian republic, in which all mainly German-speaking regions were to be united into one state. Karl Renner, Social Democrat and Chancellor of State, also wrote the text of the unofficial anthem "Deutschösterreich, du herrliches Land". The melody of this anthem by Wilhelm Kienzl is now quoted several times.

Suddenly the piece modulates into a minor key. The peace treaties of St. Germain begin. Karl Renner led the negotiations for Austria. An Agogo bark represents the ticking of the clock and is supposed to symbolize the stress of the heated debates. The theme of the new beginning is now presented in minor and processed like a joint. One last time, Haydn's Kaisermelodie, a desperate, begging attempt to save the great Austrian empire, is heard. However, Renner was unable to assert himself and had to cede many areas, including Bohemia, the Sudentenland and South Tyrol. Austria was also obliged to pay reparations. These incisions are symbolized by loud accents, which interrupt a striking melody in the deep brass several times. According to tradition, French Prime Minister Georges Clemenceau said: "Le reste c'est l'Autriche" ("... and the rest is Austria!").

The last part describes this "remaining" Austria. A simple melody is not accompanied at first. After a transition in which the current national anthem is quoted, this melody sounds in a voluminous sound. This shows that, despite its defeat, Austria has developed into a country of which people are proud. The play ends rather quietly. Foreign chord changes at the end indicate that Austria will still have to pass many tests.
