Additional info/contents	Russian composer Mikhail Ippolitov-Ivanov is best known for the orchestral suite "Caucasian Sketches," which includes the oft-quoted "Procession of the Sardar." But equally interesting are his "Turkish Fragments," an orchestral suite in four movements for large orchestra. All movements use material from Azerbaijani, Turkish, Uzbek, and Kazakh folk music. 1. "Caravan" has a steady, ambitious meter and a distinctive Turkish melody that runs throughout the piece. 2. "At Rest" is rhythmic but calm, with a middle section of a livelier nature. 3. "Night" is a peaceful, quieter section, and lives up to its name. 4. "Festival" closes this suite. It consists of a dance, sounds lively and at times peaceful.
