Additional info/contents	The Decatur Municipal Band (founded in 1876 in Illinois) is one of the oldest wind bands in the United States, blending traditional and modern wind music. To celebrate its 150th anniversary in 2026, Philip Sparke composed the commissioned work "A Midwest Celebration," funded by the city of Decatur. The piece begins with a festive, overture-like opening, followed by a cheerful second theme that is varied by different sections of the orchestra. Both themes culminate in a celebratory climax. Sparke utilizes the full sonic range of the wind band—from fanfares to lyrical passages. (he)
