Additional info/contents If you read this title, you would rather assume that it is one of the character pieces popular during Fucík's lifetime than a march. But one can be mistaken, because The funny village smiths are among the most famous marches of this composer, which are still known today. In the 1930s, an article appeared in a Styrian local newspaper in which Christine Fucík reported on a holiday together with her husband in Gleisdorf. On the occasion of a walk one had passed a blacksmith's shop. The rhythm with which the two blacksmiths worked the anvil would then have inspired Fucík to write this piece. However, since the march was published in 1908 and Christine and Julius had only known each other since 1907, and their acquaintance did not go smoothly, especially at the beginning, doubts must arise about this description, although it is the only clue to the creation of the The funny village smiths.
