Additional info/contents	The Ave Maria (Hail, Mary) by Franz Schubert is known and loved worldwide. It was originally written as part of the Liederzyklus vom Fräulein vom See (The Lady of the Lake), by Sir Walter Scott. One of the songs from the cycle, Ellens dritter Gesang (Ellen's third song), opens with the words Ave Maria. In the course of time, the German text has been replaced by the traditional Latin prayer so often that the song - separate from the cycle - has become known as the Ave Maria by Schubert. The lyrical melody, stirring in its simplicity, is complemented by a murmuring accompaniment that imitates a harp - a feature that Thomas Doss faithfully reproduces in this arrangement.
