Additional info/contents Theme with 5 variations on a famous Dutch folk song. After an intrada by the brass section, the theme is played. Variation 1 has a striking character. Variation 2 is a gracious variant on the theme in a 5/8 measure. Variation 3 is a scherzo with a joyful spirit, despite the minor key. In variation 4 the main theme is played by the bass, which then is taken over by other instruments. Variation 5 is both scherzando as well as lyrical with a very recognisable theme in melody and structure. Exceptional instrumentation.
