Composer Teike, Carl
Arranger Rundel, Siegfried
Difficulty level 3+
Duration 3:00
Additional info/contents Carl Teike enriched the German concert march with his marches, as street marches rarely flowed from his pen. Clear structure, ingenuity and a variety of tone colours characterise his works and make them something new. It is above all this type of march, with its musical charisma and diversity, that established the international reputation of the German march. Today, Teike's marches are still synonymous with musical quality and expressiveness - and they are never aggressive. Towards the end of his service in Ulm, Teike had presented his superior with a new march that had not yet been marked, and the superior was quick to judge that he should put the piece "in the oven". A classic error of judgement, because in view of his imminent departure, Carl Teike called this piece "Alte Kameraden" (Old Comrades). There is no need to explain how well this composition has been received all over the world and still is. "Alte Kameraden" is a world march!

In his new arrangement, Siegfried Rundel did not change the essence of Teike’s music, he rather sensitively adapted it to modern musical practice and to the instrumentation of the symphonic band on the basis of his deep respect for the works of Carl Teike.
