Additional info/contents Franz Lachner, langjähriger Münchner Hofopernkapellmeister und Leiter der königlichen Vokalkapelle, hat neben anderem eine stattliche Zahl geistlicher Werke hinterlassen, darunter zwei Stabat-mater-Vertonungen: Die erste Version op. 154 von 1856 beschränkt sich auf eine rein vokale Besetzung (CV 70.037), die zweite op. 168 von 1870 zieht Streicher und Orgel heran, wobei der angestrebten dunklen Farbgebung wegen die Violinen ausgespart bleiben. In seiner harmonischen Expressivität orientiert sich besonders die zweite Komposition an der damals modernen Stilrichtung der Neudeutschen Schule um Liszt und Wagner, ohne im Vokalpart jedoch über einen mittleren Schwierigkeitsgrad hinauszugehen.
