Additional info/contents	Textures wurde 1996 im Aufrag von Marty Erickson für das Penn State Tuba/Euphonium Ensemble komponiert. Diese Sinfonie für ein 12-stimmiges Ensemble (6 Euphonium und 6 Tubas) ist in drei Sätzen angelegt - Transparent, Translucent, Opaque - in denen verschiedene Klangintensitäten, instrumentale Kombinationen und harmonische Klangfarben erforscht werden. In Transparent sind es pentatonische Harmonien mit intensivem multi-metrischen Hoketus und einer Fugen-Struktur. Rhythmische Motive, die das ganze Stück markieren, werden hier eingeführt. Translucent [Lichtdurchlässig] ist ein langsamer, meditativer Satz mit duchscheinender Textur und diationischem und modalem Hintergrund. Der letzte Satz, Opaque [undurchsichtig], beginnt mit einer kurzen Wiederholung der vorherigen harmonischen Texturen, schöpft dann deren rhythmische und harmonische Lebhaftigkeit aus. Er erinnert an die verschiedenen Themen der vorangehenden Sätze, greift dann sein eigenes Thema wieder auf und endet mit einem rhythmisch bombastichen Finale.     Zur Ausführung Dieses Werk kann auch mit einer Verdoppelung der jeweiligen Stimmen gespielt werden.  'Smack mouthpiece cup' bedeutet: mit flacher Hand (nicht zu heftig) auf den Munstückrand klopfen. Dieses Werk ist als Ganzes konzipiert, es können aber auch nur einzelne Sätze aufgeführt werden. Michael Forbes, Dezember 2016, Mount Horeb, Wisconsin, USA Textures was composed in 1996 for the Penn State Tuba/Euphonium Ensemble and commissioned by Marty Erickson. It is a symphony for 12-part tuba/euphonium ensemble in three movements that explores differing levels of thickness in scoring and harmonic timbre in the three movements:  Transparent, Translucent, and Opaque. The first movement,Transparent, explores pentatonic harmonies, with intense multi-meter hocket and even a fugal structure. Rhythmic motives that permeate the entire work are introduced here.  Translucent, slow and meditative, has a cloudy texture with its diatonic and modal character. The last movement, Opaque, opens with a recapitulation of the previous harmonic textures before exploring its more busy rhythmic, chromatic texture. The movement also recalls the various themes from previous movements before driving home its own theme followed by a rhythmic, bombastic finale.         For performance The work may also accommodate a larger ensemble simply by doubling the parts equally.  'Smack mouthpiece cup' means hitting (not too strongly) the cup of the mouthpiece with the hand. Transparent explore des harmonies pentatoniques, avec d'intenses hoquets multi-métriques ainsi qu'une structure de fugue. Ici s'esquissent déjà des motifs rythmiques qui jalonneront l'oeuvre entière. Translucent, un mouvement lent, de caractère méditatif dans lequel se développe une texture diaphane sur un fond diatonique et modal. Opaque, le dernier mouvement, commence avec une récapitulation des textures harmoniques précédentes avant d'explorer leurs animations rythmiques et chromatiques. Ce mouvement rappelle différents thèmes des mouvements prédédents avant de converger vers son propre thème dans un final rythmé théâtral.         Pour l'exécution Cette oeuvre peut également être jouée par une formation élargie, avec une doublure égale des voix.  'Smack mouthpiece cup' signifie taper (sans violence) sur le bord de la cuvette de l'embouchure avec le plat de la main.
