Higashi-Nishi bedeutet 'Ost-West' auf Japanisch und ist im Geiste einer Annäherung der Blechbläser von tiefen Instrumenten dieser beiden Welten geschrieben worden.

Higashi-Nishi was composed in 1984 for the Tokyo Bari-Tuba Ensemble, a first-rate ensemble whose reputation was first made during the 1983 International Tuba and Euphonium Conference at Maryland University, USA.
Higashi-Nishi means 'East-West' in Japanese, and was written in the spirit rapprochement between the low brass players of the two worlds.

Higashi-Nishi a été composé en 1984 pour le Tokyo Bari-Tuba Ensemble, une formation de haut niveau qui s'est révélée à l'occasion de la Conférence internationale de tuba et d'euphonium qui s'est tenue en 1983 à l'Université du Maryland aux États-Unis.
Higashi-Nishi signifie 'Est-Ouest' en japonais et c'est dans l'esprit d'un rapprochement entre musiciens de cuivres graves des deux mondes que cette pièce a été écrite.
