Additional info/contents	Four Shakespeare Sonnets (Vier Shakespeare Sonnette) für Bariton und Streichorchester ist komponiert worden zur 450ten Geburtstagfeier von William Shakespeare im Jahre 2014. Seit mehr als 40 Jahren habe ich mit Begeisterung unzählige Vokalwerke komponiert, zu feinsinniger Dichtung und für Stimmen in allen Lagen, das vorliegende Werk ist aber mein erster Exkurs in die Welt einer Solostimme mit Streichorchesterbegleitung. Diese vier Sonnette habe ich deren gemeinsamen Thema, der Liebe, gewählt – Seelenschmerz und Grausamkeit, Bezauberung, Lust, Unvergänglichkeit... Verschiedene Themen und harmonische Sequenzen vereinen die 4 Liebestestamente in ihren zahlreichen Gestalten. Das vierte Sonnett ist das bedeutsamste, mit seinen üppigen und sinnlichen Harmonien, feinverteilt in den Streichern. Die Welt Ur- und Erstaufführungen der Fassung mit Streichorchester fanden im Mai, Juni und November 2014 in England statt, mit dem Orchestra of the Swan, dem Welsh Chamber Orchestra und dem Bariton Jeremy Huw Williams unter der Leitung von Anthony Hose. Four Shakespeare Sonnets for baritone and string orchestra (or piano) have been composed to celebrate the 450th anniversary of the birth of William Shakespeare in this year 2014. I have been an avid song writer throughout the 40-or-so years as a professional concert composer. I am drawn to the images of fine poetry and have set words for all voices. But this is my first venture into the world of a solo voice and string orchestra. These four Sonnets have been chosen for their unified theme of love – the anguish and cruelties, the charms, lust, immortality and sheer joy. Various themes and harmonic sequences appear and reappear uniting the four testaments of love in their many guises. The fourth Sonnet is of utmost importance structurally with its lush and sensual harmonies and heavily divided strings. The world Premiere of the version with string orchestra has been given in England by The Orchestra of the Swan and The Welsh Chamber Orchestra with the works dedicatee, baritone Jeremy Huw Williams, in May, June and November 2014, with conductor Anthony Hose. Four Shakespeare Sonnets (Quatre sonnets de Shakespeare) pour baryton et orchestre à cordes (ou piano) a été composé pour les célébrations du 450e anniversaire de la naissance de William Shakespeare (1564-1616). Depuis plus de 40 ans, j'ai écrit d'innombrables pièces pour tous les registres de voix sur de magnifiques poèmes. Cette oeuvre est toutefois la première pour voix solo et orchestre. J'ai choisi ces quatre sonnets dont le dénominateur commun est l'amour: douleur de l'âme et cruauté, charme, convoitise, immortalité... Divers thèmes et séquences harmoniques unissent les quatre testaments de l'amour dans leurs multiples formes. La structure du quatrième sonnet est la plus significative, avec ses harmonies onctueuses et sensuelles finement distribées dans les cordes. La création mondiale de la version avec orchestre à cordes a eu lieu en mai, juin et novembre 2014 en Angleterre avec l'Orchestra of the Swan, The Welsh Chamber Orchestra, et le baryton Jeremy Huw Williams sous la direction de Anthony Hose.
