Tenebrae für Trompete und Orgel war ursprünglich ein Werk für Englischhorn und Streichquartett. Tenebrae (lat.) 'Finstermetten', sind christliche, feierliche liturgische Zeremonien, die in der Karwoche abgehalten werden. Das Stück illustriert diese Feierlichkeit.

Tenebrae for trumpet and organ was originally written for English horn and string quartet. Tenebrae literally means 'Service of Darkness' and is a solemn Christian ceremony presented on the night of Maundy Thursday, the day before Good Friday. The music reflects this solemnity.
