Additional info/contents Ursprünglich als Gelegenheitsstück komponiert, machte Hector Berlioz sein Abschiedslied der Hirten L’Adieu des Bergers à la Sainte Famille zum Zentrum seiner geistlicher Trilogie L’Enfance du Christ op. 25. Indem er es zunächst einem fiktiven Komponisten des 18. Jahrhunderts unterschob, narrte er seine Kritiker gehörig: Erst nach deren Lobeshymnen gab er sich zu erkennen – das Erstaunen war groß, dass dieses empfindsame, sanft-melodiöse Chorlied von Berlioz stammte, war man von ihm eher bombastisch, exzentrischen Stil gewohnt. Schlichtheit, natürlicher Ausdruck und feinfühlige Stimmungsschattierungen dominieren hier das musikalische Geschehen, ganz dem weihnachtlichen Text entsprechend.
