Additional info/contents Julius Fucik composed more than 300 works, of which unfortunately only a relatively small number are played today. The RUNDEL Julius Fucik Edition aims to make the works of the famous master composer accessible for wind orchestras.

Antonín Dvorak agreed to take over the chair of composition at the Prague Conservatory on January 1, 1891. Among his first twelve students - four of whom were Germans - was Julius Fucik, along with other, later well-known Czech composers such as Oskar Nedbal and Josef Suk. Fucik was one of Dvorak's most talented students, who had a reputation as a particularly demanding and critical teacher. Even during his studies from 1885 to 1891, Fucik had attracted attention for his musical originality, compositional skill and his almost effortless creation, which Dvorak noted from time to time.

Later, like any experienced military bandmaster, Fucik always had to keep a number of half-finished or already finished compositions, especially marches, more or less at hand in order to be able to react quickly to any events. With the war, there was a real inflation of military marches within a short period of time - and Fucik had something to offer here.

Fucik's last march, "Gigantic op. 311", is a real "drawer work", because the trio is borrowed from his march "Rechts sieht!".
