Additional info/contents	"Two moods for Tuba" was written for the musician, festival organiser and cartoonist Gerard Hoffnung. He was an accomplished tuba player who performed the Vaughan Williams concerto at the Royal Festival Hall. He asked the English composer Donald Swann, who may be best remembered as one half of the revue partnership of Flanders and Swann, to write a 'lighter' piece for him. In the original version for Tuba and Piano, the composer writes: "The elegy is inspired by (but I hope not lifted from) the last bars of Honegger's Third Symphony. I love to see the tuba mute coming out, that socking great cork. The Scherzo is a skit, somewhat of a battle between the Piano and the tuba player for the right key."
